The Centre for Radiation, Chemical and Environmental Hazards, as part of its information resource, is producing a series entitled a Compendium of Chemical Hazards.
The style and content have been developed following extensive joint working across the HPA and the chemicals chosen have been selected following an audit of queries.
The aim is to produce an online information resource for the public and all professionals who may be involved in advising and responding to chemical incidents, mainly the public health professionals and emergency services.
The Compendium of Chemical Hazards is split into three sections.
General Information
Provides background information on the compound, including its uses and 'frequently asked questions'
Incident Management
Focuses on information that may be needed during chemical incidents, such as physicochemical properties, health effects and decontamination. More detailed information on the clinical management of individuals who have been exposed to chemicals is available via TOXBASE.
Toxicological Overview
Provides more in-depth toxicology of the compound.
In addition, incident management and general information sections are available for some additional chemicals to aid in the management of chemical incidents.
